BRING US HATS!

As part of the Mad Hatter Retreat weekend we are planning a charity hat round-up.  What we would like is for you to knit or crochet hats for the charity of your choice:  chemo hats, newborn hats, premi hats, hats for homeless people …. you choose!

For every hat donated your name will go into a hat for a chance to WIN an amazingly appropriate gift.

And by the way, when we contacted the Hospital foundation here on the Island they told us their only criteria for chemo and baby hats was that they must be made of soft fibre.  Newborn hats cannot be made with angora bunny fibres.

We now have only 75 spaces left ….. so get those registration forms in!

Ready …. Spin …. HATS!

Greetings!

In keeping with our Mad Hatter theme for the 2013 Retreat we are announcing the following 3 Hat contests.

1.  The MAD HATTER –  Enter your craziest, wildest, zaniest, insane creation.  If you ask yourself “Who would ever wear THIS?”, then this is the contest for you!
  Adult or child versions are all acceptable.  Don’t forget embellishments.

2.  The TEA PARTY HAT –  This one is for your pretty, sedate, madame-type, Sunday-go-to-meeting hat.  The kind of hat you might make for your Mom or one of your ‘normal’ friends. (Louise and I wonder if any spinner could fit the category of ‘normal’…)

3.  The WARM WINTER HAT –  Here we are thinking east coast winters, earflaps, multiple layers, fibres like quiviut or angora bunny.

Knitting, crochet, weaving, anything goes as long as you use mostly handspun yarn.   YES there will be prizes!  Winners will be determined by your votes.

And while you are happily spinning , keep in mind that we are looking forward to see new creations of all kinds (not just hats) in the FASHION SHOW Saturday after the banquet.

Keep checking this site.  There is more to come.  And please pass the word about the website since we are trying to avoid doing mass emails.

Cancellation/Refund Policy for the Retreat

This post is just a bit of housekeeping that I should have included with the Registration info but somehow I was not organized enough for that!   In order to avoid hassles and misunderstandings we want to be very clear about our money business.

The Cancellation date for the 2013 Retreat is September 15th.  A full refund will be given when you send written notification to Barbara Henry.   email  -   flinders@pei.sympatico.ca

After September 15th we will hold back a 20% administration fee.

If you cancel after October 1st a refund will only be issued if there are sufficient funds remaining after the Retreat. 

The 20% Admin fee will apply but we will do our best to refund as much as possible since we know that no spinner would miss a Retreat without a drastic reason!

Louise and I are working on organizing contests involving HATS and will be posting those details soon…..

MAD HATTER RETREAT – Registration information

13th Annual MARITIME SPINNERS RETREAT

MAD HATTER RETREAT

Rodd Mill River Resort, PEI, Canada

October 25, 26 & 27, 2013

Louise and I are pleased to announce the full weekend fee of $135.00 for the 2013 Retreat.  I am posting the registration sheet  on this site in PDF .  Please print, complete, and send to the address indicated along with your cheque.

Registration is on a first come basis.  We have room for 115 spinners this year.

The Resort is holding a block of rooms for us so remember to mention the retreat when you book your room as they are offering a special rate of $104.00 plus HST per room (1 to 4 persons).  All rooms have 2 Queen beds.

Vendor space will be in the PoolCourt Room as it was in 2010.  Please contact Louise or me by e-mail or phone for more details if you are interested in coming as a vendor.

As usual, we will set up and start spinning late Friday afternoon and continue until just before lunch on Sunday.  We will post a timetable and activity details in the coming months but we are planning a MAD HATTER FASHION SHOW for Saturday evening so you can start spinning and checking for hat ideas!

There will be a short introductory session for new spinners on Saturday morning but we HIGHLY recommend that any beginners come with equipment and at least a bit of practice in forming yarn.

Your $135.00 covers all spinning activities and meals (including taxes and tips!) beginning with snacks and a glass of wine or beer on Friday evening to breakfast on Sunday morning.  There will be a sit-down banquet Saturday evening.

If anyone wants lunch on Sunday before leaving, please let the hotel know in advance since they are officially closed for the season that weekend and all meals are being prepared specifically for our group.  This means that all non-spinners must be registered with us in order to eat at the hotel.

PLEASE NOTE!

There is no elevator in the hotel so if mobility is an issue mention it when booking your room.

Remember, you are on your own for supper Friday evening.

Woohoo! 3 more sleeps!

Well this is it, the retreat is in just 3 more sleeps!!  We are looking forward to greeting all of you.

Remember:

  • check in for the hotel is 3:00pm
  • spinning room will be open from 3:00pm onwards on Friday
  • retreat registration is from 5pm-7pm on Friday evening, and from 9:00am-10:00am on Saturday
  • you are on your own for dinner on Friday evening (hotel has a really good menu, also many restaurants very close by to the hotel)
  • don’t forget to bring your “show and share” and your entry for the bird’s nest contest
